Reading at Canon Barnett

At Canon Barnett, we run a reading competition each half-term. This year we have asked children to: research a hero of their choice and present their research in a creative way; design a bookmark with a book-related quiz; produce a character description; create a book review being as creative as they can; design a poster that tricks people into reading it and research and present information about one of their ambitions.

One entrant from each class is chosen as a winner and they are given a book as a prize. The entries are displayed in the school library. This year we have introduced certificates for all the children who have entered the competition in recognition of their hard work.

The children get extremely excited about the competitions and having books as prizes has helped to raise their value within the school.  The number of entrants is increasing and the children have got increasingly involved with some of the competition ideas coming from their suggestions.
